How many wings for 20 people?
For 20 people at 6 wings each plus 10% extra, plan on 132 wings — about 13.2 lb of party wings, or 5 bags of 3 lb.
How to work it out
- 20 guests = 20 adults × 6 wings × 1.1 (appetite & extra) = 132 wings
- 132 wings ÷ 10 per lb = 13.2 lb ÷ 3 lb bags = 5 bags
Twenty is a full living room on game day. With pizza and snacks on the table too, six wings per person is a sensible plan; if wings are the whole meal, almost double it.

Wings for a 20-person game-day party
At six pieces each and 10% extra for the guest who arrives in the second quarter, twenty people eat about 132 wings. At roughly ten party wing pieces to the pound, that is about 13 lb raw — five 3 lb bags. If wings are dinner rather than one of several dishes, go to ten each and the order becomes about 22 lb.
| Menu | Wings each | Pieces for 20 | Raw pounds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Snack spread, wings one of many | 4 | about 88 | about 9 lb |
| Wings and pizza | 6 | about 132 | about 13 lb |
| Wings are the meal | 10 | about 220 | about 22 lb |
Cooking 13 pounds of wings at home
Thirteen pounds will not fit in one oven batch. Two sheet pans with racks take about 3 to 4 lb each, so plan three or four rounds, or start a batch at kickoff and another at halftime. A slow cooker on warm, or a covered pan in a low oven, keeps sauced wings at a safe 140 °F between rounds.
- Sauces: two or three, tossed right before serving.
- Dips and vegetables: a big bowl of blue cheese or ranch and a couple of pounds of celery and carrot sticks.
- Napkins and bones: a stack of napkins and an empty bowl for bones at each end of the couch.
