- One table will have 4 guests — or spread the 100 guests evenly, about 7.7 a table.
- Also count tables that nobody sits at: buffet, cake, gifts, drinks, DJ. Bright Event Rentals allows about 60 sq ft for each 8 ft buffet or head table.

Counting tables is simple division — guests ÷ seats per table, rounded up — but the seats per table depend on who you ask. Lifetime, which makes many of the folding tables people own and rent, gives a comfortable count. Rental companies give a range, with the top of it for tighter seating. This calculator uses Lifetime’s figures (or the low end of the rental range) for comfortable and the rental top for maximum.
How many people fit at each table
| Table | Comfortable | Maximum | Floor space per table |
|---|---|---|---|
| 48 in round | 5 | 8 | about 64 sq ft |
| 60 in round | 8 | 10 | about 79 sq ft |
| 66 in round | 9 | 11 | about 87 sq ft |
| 72 in round | 10 | 12 | about 95 sq ft |
| 6 ft banquet | 6 | 8 | about 77 sq ft |
| 8 ft banquet | 8 | 10 | about 91 sq ft |
tables = (guests − head-table seats) ÷ seats per table, rounded up chairs = guests × (1 + spare) floor space ≈ tables × space per table

Round or rectangular?
- Rounds are easier to talk across and look like a reception. 60 in rounds are the common rental size; 72 in seat more but need more room.
- Banquet tables pack more people into a room in rows, suit family-style meals and double as buffet tables. Most are 30 in wide.
- Mixing them is normal: rounds for guests, rectangles for the head table, buffet, cake and gifts.
- Tables are 30 in high (Bright); the drop of the tablecloth is measured from there — see the tablecloth calculator.
Floor space here is for the tables and chairs only. For the whole room or tent — dance floor, buffet, bar, aisles — use the tent size calculator.
