How many tables for 100 guests?

Short answer

For 100 guests at 60 in round tables, rent 13 tables seating 8 each — or 10 tables at 10 each if you can seat them tightly — plus 105 chairs with spares.

How to work it out

  1. 100 guests ÷ 8 per 60 in round (comfortable) = 13 tables
  2. Chairs: 100 + 5% spare = 105 chairs · Floor: 13 tables × about 79 sq ft each = 1,021 sq ft

A hundred guests is a mid-sized wedding, a milestone birthday or a company dinner. With the standard 60 in rental rounds, the answer is thirteen tables comfortably, ten if you squeeze.

  • One table will have 4 guests — or spread the 100 guests evenly, about 7.7 a table.
  • Also count tables that nobody sits at: buffet, cake, gifts, drinks, DJ. Bright Event Rentals allows about 60 sq ft for each 8 ft buffet or head table.

Thirteen tables or ten?

Lifetime seats eight around a 60 in round, and rental companies go up to ten. At eight a table, 100 guests need 12½ tables — thirteen, with four seats left over. At ten, exactly ten. Ten is fine for a buffet or a casual party; for a plated dinner with chargers, two or three glasses each and a centerpiece, eight is the comfortable choice. Switching to 72 in rounds (ten comfortably) also gets you to ten tables, with more elbow room but a bigger footprint.

Seats from Lifetime and Bright Event Rentals; floor space from Bright’s per-table allowances (60 in round 10 ft circle, 72 in round 11 ft, 8 ft table 13 × 7 ft).

Don’t forget the other tables

  • Head or sweetheart table: take those seats off the guest count; rectangular tables, usually two 8 ft.
  • Buffet: at least one 8 ft table, two-sided if you can — Bright allows about 60 sq ft for each, plus 8 to 10 ft of clearance around it.
  • Cake, gifts, guest book, bar, DJ: one small table each.
  • Linens: one cloth per table — for 60 in rounds, 120 in rounds reach the floor (what size tablecloth for a 60 inch round table).
